Madeleine - Dance Across the Sky (2017)

Oh, I recall your first sweet ride -
That model built in '92
We drove all around our hometown
In that car your parents bought for you

Carefree were we, Madeleine
The wind was blowing through our hair
It's now just a memory, Madeleine
For now our days are fraught with care

Our worries climb from day to day
And I suggest we get away

And I recall one summer day
When a song came on your radio
We sang along, sweet Madeleine
With words we'd only heard before

But that day things changed, sweet Madeleine
My voice was ringing strong and clear
"I've never felt this way before"
It was coming from my heart, sincere

"You are a dream, a dream to me"
You sang along in harmony

Oh, Madeleine let's take a ride
We'll roll the windows down
We've got plenty of time
To get nowhere in particular singing

Oh, Madeleine, I often ride down
That winding highway in my mind
I hope that one day we'll arrive
At the crossroads with reality

So on summer days at day's end
When of working we have done our share
And the wind is whispering in the trees
And the fireflies, they dance on air

Come away, sweet Madeleine
For my soul, it feels like dancing too
Take the keys, and this hand of mine
It don't matter where we're driving to

Let the destination be unknown
Just start her up, and let her go

Oh, Madeleine, let's take a ride
We'll play the music loud
We've got plenty of time
To get nowhere in particular singing

Ooh...

God Is Love - Dance Across the Sky (2017)

Ice winds blew across the summer sky
As the wellspring of a mother's love ran dry
The love letters 'neath her daughter's bed
Were written by another woman's hand

"Explain these," but how does one explain
When the heart names its beloved?
Inside the holy book the mother brandished high,
The girl could have sworn that she'd read

God is love, and love abides
And when we meet with the rejected
that our arms can open wide
God is love, and love is kind
And when ideas steeped in fear close our hearts
We can change our minds

The forsaken sought to ease her pain
And to warm the frozen blood within her veins
The walls of stone at the meeting house
Gave way to let her in

Folks with smiling eyes, and lit candles in their hearts
No explanation did they demand
The pastor wept with her inside the sacred place
Where she learned to understand

God is love, and love abides
And when we meet with the rejected
That our arms can open wide
God is love, and love is kind
And when ideas steeped in fear close our hearts
We can open our minds

Weary travelers all are we
I am that girl, and each of you are me
A hearthstone, too, does our heart possess
And the choice there to rest or run

Judgement's cruel nature tends to cast away
Making enemies and exclusions
But there's no gavel grasped inside an outstretched hand
And no rending at the conclusion that

God is love, and love abides
And when we meet with the rejected
That our arms can open wide
God is love, and love is kind
And when ideas steeped in fear close our hearts
We can open and change our minds

Coming Home - Dance Across the Sky (2017)

Leave your burden by the door
All the falsities there beyond dont' matter anymore
With one breath - in and out again
Let life return to your eyes

Coming home

Lean your body into mine
Let silent music between us play - our hearts keeping time
One, two, three, One, two three - dancing so tenderly
We find release in each other's arms

Coming home

Each moment we were forced apart in years behind
Sent a sting to the place where once my heart did lie
And bitter still the stinging question in my mind:
Will the strength of our love survive?

I hear your key as the locks recline
You close the door and speak my name as our eyes align
We see ourselves as we're meant to be
Always savor the feeling of

Coming home

Dance Across the Sky - Dance Across the Sky (2017)

I've been running now, running now
Headed straight on into the unknown
Oh, it's strange how mystery's hands
Can build the walls of stone
That keep me out from answers within
Where did you go, where have you been?
Was that your voice upon the wind saying

There's nothing standing in your way
And it's open air, and you're free to fly
I know you're gonna be ok
And in time your soul will dance across the sky

Tears coming down, coming down
Heavy and slow, like a summer rain
Oh, it's strange how memories give
And take away the pain
The love that you taught, the lessons you gave
This moment is yours - never hesitate
No, don't let it go to waste

There's nothing standing in your way
And it's open air, and you're free to fly
I know you're gonna be ok
And in time your soul will dance across the sky

I know someday that I'll trace the path you travel down
Transformation is the fate of every living thing
I think of you each time my eyes are blessed to land upon
A swallowtail on the wing

Friends come around, come around
Ready to shoulder up our grief
Oh, it's strange how suffering's end
Can offer some relief
There are some things we can't overcome
Your body was just a setting sun
But your journey's just begun

There's nothing standing in your way
And it's open air, and you're free to fly
I know you're gonna be ok
And in time your soul will dance across the sky

Undercover Muse - Undercover Muse (2013)

I hope no one will notice the smile on my face
You see, I have made a promise -- not to the sirens or the fates --
She's no ordinary woman
Her ideas keep on coming

And I guess she's done it again--
Lit the fire and drew me in
Making offers I can't refuse
I guess I'll pay my dues to the undercover muse

I stared at the blank canvas with hands sorely wrought
Somehow she knows the answers to questions I forgot
Though it's all under the table
My dreams she enables

And I guess she's done it again--
Lit the fire and drew me in
Making offers I can't refuse
I guess I'll pay my dues to the undercover muse

There's just no way I could repay you
I write a new song every day
And I'm glad that you've been so elusive
You teach me to stay out of my own way

And I guess she's done it again--
Lit the fire and drew me in
Making offers I can't refuse
I guess I'll pay my dues to the undercover muse

Orchard - Undercover Muse (2013)

Oh, that I were an orchard
Your hungry hands these limbs could teach
With harvest ripe for the taking
If only hungry hands would reach

Let every prayer I say
My heart an orchard make
And may the hands of fate set you down inside
To gather all the love you can take

Oh, that I were the ocean shore
Where those that long speak from their soul
Scribing wishes for peace to commend them to the waves
And to their destinations gently roll

Let every tear I cry
The shores of my heart open wide
And may the hands of fate guide you to walk along
And in the sea your hopes confide

Oh, when I'm an old woman
And on to rest you've surely gone
It's not your pain I'll remember
But your smile with brightness like the dawn

Let every prayer I say
My heart an orchard make
And may the hands of fate set you down inside
To gather all the love you can take
Gather all the love you can take

8 Years - Undercover Muse (2013)

2002 was the dawn of me and you
Body and soul, and millennium were new
A mutual friend to me did recommend you
Your number she gave, and therein my heart overthrew

There's no way I could have known
When you answered the phone
How everything would rearrange
With the seasons of our lives
About to change

2003 -- when our love came to be
An adolescent celebration on a bittersweet New Year's Eve
Our friends all drank wine, and we all sang Auld Lang Syne
You and I brought in the new year with our bodies intertwined

When I look back on it now
I marvel at how
Fortune smiled on us from ear to ear
As she watched the fireworks fade
And disappear

2010 -- I made mistakes and then some
Some things I have broken, and some things I just can't mend

But I still see you in dreams
And even now it seems
A part of me with you has stayed
And even through the pain
There's nothing I would trade

Undone - Undercover Muse (2013)

I've got two ends of myself to tie together
Stretched by endless tug of war
I've been pushed and pulled, and pulled and pushed until this tether
Doesn't want to hold anymore

Won't you show me how -
How weathered ends they can wind into one?
Won't you show me how to weave a circle from these lines
Show me to not come undone?
Come undone

When I was tattered, fraying cord strewn in the gravel
You saw workable twine
When I had a wound split my heart, and leave me to unravel
You said I'd be just fine

Won't you show me how -
How weathered ends they can wind into one?
Won't you show me how to weave a circle from these lines
Show me to not come undone?
Come undone

Now I've got a place in the working shed
I'm ready if you should need me instead
You made room for me, and lent me your time
I took your hand, now you can take mine

And I can be here now -
I'll be here in times when I always used to run
And I can be here now if something is weighing on your mind
And I can be here now - I promise I won't leave you behind
I promise to not come undone
Come undone

Nightbird - Undercover Muse (2013)

May this be the last lamentation
For my heart has lingered long
Enchanted by a strange incantation
Growing weary, remaining strong

I heard the call of a nightbird
Singing sweetly so
I held the heart of a nightbird
I swore she sang my song

For ten long years, my dear, my darling
I wished that I could comfort you
I ran my hands across your darkness
From wanting warmth long overdue

I heard the call of a nightbird
Singing sweetly so
I held the heart of a nightbird
I swore she sang my song

I sit high above the river
Wondering if you'll join me here
Only tenderness I'd deliver
I'd keep you safe and hold you near

I heard the call of a nightbird
Singing sweetly so
I held the heart of a nightbird
I swore she sang my song

Keep Your Lantern Lit - Undercover Muse (2013)

Keep your lantern lit, won't you hold it high
Did we miss the train, or was it standing by
Keep your lantern lit, darlin', won't you hold it high

For so long she had her bags packed
Always ready to go
For someone who left her waiting
At the station long ago

Keep your lantern lit, won't you hold it high
Did I miss the train, or was it standing by
Keep your lantern lit, darlin', won't you hold it high

A fugitive from himself was he
The last time here they met
He rushed right past her to the ticket line
And on his way he went

Keep your lantern lit, won't you hold it high
Did I miss the train, or was it standing by
Keep your lantern lit, darlin', won't you hold it high

Something calls them to the station now
A whistle in the back of their minds
He hopes he'll catch her on her way somewhere
She hopes he won't leave her behind

Keep your lantern lit, won't you hold it high
Did we miss the train, or was it standing by
Keep your lantern lit, darlin', won't you hold it high

I Believe in You - Undercover Muse (2013)

I feel small looking at the sky overhead
And I'm unsure looking back at the days and where they've led
When darkness falls, and distant are the paths I've known
A constant star guides me on the way home

I believe in you, babe, you know I do
I believe in you, babe, you know I, you know I do

Words unsaid, decisions unmade, love held back
Are manifest in the clutches of doubt, cold and black
When darkness falls, and chains of fear constrict my heart
A tender smile eases the restraints to fall apart

I believe in you, babe, you know I do
I believe in you, babe, you know I, you know I do

Time's gone by, hearts grown cold, and wells run dry
Some we've lost, some grown old, some said goodbye
When darkness falls, and tightening is the grasp of fate
A warm embrace reminds me it's not too late

I believe in you, babe, you know I do
I believe in you, babe, you know I, you know I do

The Edge of the Sea - Undercover Muse (2013)

There are no sharp edges to me anymore
They all smooth away as tide meets shore
When you dance like the breeze on my skin
And I can't tell where you end where
Oh, where I begin

And your gentle embrace is a catalyst
Where healing calm and growth keep tryst
You slightly touch me and run through my veins
Troubles fade out and only comfort
Only comfort remains

Call my soul to retreat to the edge of the sea
Here, where you and I dream consciously
Waves ebb and flow in common release
Clenched fists let go, and we're finally
Oh, we're finally at peace

Deliver - Undercover Muse (2013)

The shelf is bare
Find a way to keep on giving
No source of air
Find a way to keep on living

This seems impossible, illogical, unfathomable
Like swimming against the river
This seems impossible, improbable, unattainable
But somehow we deliver

Tear your shirt
Find the wound, stop the bleeding
Touch me deep
Find my heart, start it beating

This seems impossible, illogical, unfathomable
Like swimming against the river
This seems impossible, improbable, unattainable
But somehow we deliver

See yourself in another's face
Find the mirror
Wipe the dirt
Shine the glass, make it clearer

This seems impossible, illogical, unfathomable
Like swimming against the river
This seems impossible, improbable, unattainable
But somehow we deliver

Got It Bad - Undercover Muse (2013)

I've got it bad for you, babe
But you love me so sweet
You give me the sweetest blues I ever had

But I'm down, don't you get me wrong
I'm so blue without you
I had to put it in a song

Won't you let me know when you're comin' round
If you give me warning
I can pick myself up off the ground

I've got it bad for you, babe
But you love me so sweet
You give me the sweetest blues I ever had
